Without it, none of the following books could have been written. 😉 It is my hope that through this list you will find a book that will be able to minister to you right where you’re at and bring encouragement to your weary heart.

1. Billy Graham – The Reason for my Hope: Salvation

Billy-Graham-the-reason-for-my-hope5 out of 5 stars

One of the greatest gifts Billy Graham has is the ability to speak right to a persons heart. He understands the cry of each of us and the loneliness we have all felt at times in our lives. His messages have always been about Hope and the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

There is not a person on this earth that has not felt that hole in their heart and that longing for something more. Salvation is that something more and is the very thing that can bring us up out of the miry clay and makes all things new.

The salvation message is the heartbeat of Billy Graham’s ministry and it’s through these messages of Jesus Christ and the cross that he has led millions of people to the cross of redemption.

The Reason for My Hope: Salvation presents the essence of that transformative message. It is biblical and timeless, and though simple and direct, it is far from easy. There are hard words, prophetic words, directed toward a culture that denies the reality of sin and distracts us from the veracity of Hell. But through its ominous warnings shines a light that cannot be extinguished—a beacon of hope that Jesus came “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).

What others are saying about this book:

  • The Eternal Gift
  • A Life Changer
  • Messages of hope and encouragement for Christians and non-Christians alike
  • Inspirational and most timely

2. Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe

4.8 out of 5 stars

My mom use to say to us kids when we were older that she loved us all the time but there were times when she didn’t like us as kids much. I never understood that saying until I had children of my own.

I can’t tell you how many times I was curled up in a ball crying my eyes out because I was desperate for the feelings toward my children to go away.

This book is for those who have ever wondered what happened to all their ideals for what having children would be like. For those who have ever wondered if those so called “experts” actually had any children at all? For those that prayed for someone to come along side of them and mentor them. And for those that may have felt lost and alone on this journey we call motherhood.

In Desperate you will find the story of one young mother’s honest account of the desperate feelings experienced in motherhood and one experienced mentor’s realistic and gentle exhortations that were forged in the trenches of raising her own four children.Whether you are a first time mom, or an experienced mom, Desperate will inspire you to be a part of the ultimate goal of the book, to be a part of the no-more-desperate-moms movement.
What others are saying about this book:
  • The book I’m convinced was written just for me
  • Phenomenal Book for Moms
  • Good for stay-at-home moms, but not working moms

3. You’ll Get Through This by Max Lucado

youll-get-through-this4.9 out of 5 Stars

Max Lucado’s book “You’ll get Through This” always reminds me of my mom’s favorite saying, “This too Shall Pass!” In this book Max takes us on the journey through Josephs’s life. The same Joseph that was loved of his father and hated by his brothers. The same one that was sold into slavery, falsely accused of a crime, wrongly imprisoned but when from the prison to the palace in ONE day.

The fact that Lucado addresses situations that go on in our lives today and gives us biblical foundations to get through them is refreshing. So many times you are left wondering how you can apply biblical truth to your circumstances and this book helps you to do just that.

If you are at that point of hopelessness and despair and you feel like there is no way out, get this book and read it. Joseph went through so much in his life but one thing remained God had a plan for him just like he has a plan for each and every one of us. What Satan means for our evil God will ALWAYS turn it around for his good.

What others are saying about this book:

  • Book for the Weary
  • Soul searching… God searching! Great read!
  • A book for the person who needs hope

4. Gaining Through Losing

gaining-through-losing5 out of 5 Stars

My mom blessed me with this book back when I was going through the loss of a relationship. This book helped me to realize that it is in the trials we go through that God’s glory is truly revealed.

Gone but Not Lost is a thoughtful gift for a family that has experienced the death of a child. Each of its brief chapters covers one element of grief, bringing the grieving through sorrow and helping them deal with feelings of anger or guilt as well as the marital strain that may follow the loss of a beloved child.

This helpful resource has been revised and updated to bring comfort to a new generation.

What others are saying about this book:

  • All things work together for good
  • The best book yet for taking on and coping with losses of all kinds
  • You really can gain spiritual good things out of trials and disappointments

5. The Pursuit of God

pursuit-of-god-tozer4.7 out of 5 Stars

It’s hard to believe that a train ride from Chicago to, McAllen, Texas, could spring forth such a deep and penetrating book as this one.

The title “The Pursuit of God” defines what this book is all about. It will take you on a journey as if you were in the woods through dense fog and thick brush only to have you arrive on the other side with your eyes being opened and heart being renewed. This book is sure to crack open the heart of every person that opens it’s pages.

Tozer calls readers to examine what they believe and put aside preconceived ideas that disrupt this relationship with God. “It is a solemn thing,” he writes, “to see God’s children starving while actually seated at the Father’s table. This book is a modest attempt to aid God’s hungry children so to find Him.”

What others are saying about this book:

  • Prepare to have your faith challenged and life shaken!
  • A Book Saturated with God’s Presence!
  • Awesome insight in to the being of God and His love for us.
